Most people know who invented the first controllable airplane, but how many of you readers out there in blog-land know who invented the helicopter?

It’s either Igor Sikorsky or Colonel Sanders… which one wore the white suit?

Well, you’re close.
#1. Colonel Sanders invented the flying chicken.
#2. The idea for the helicopter came from China around 1500 years ago. Then, in 1483 Leonardo Da Vinci designed one on paper.
#3. The invention of an actual working helicopter took place in four different places, by four different aviation pioneers around the same time. Igor Sikorski, Arthur Young (Bell47), Frank Pieseki (tandom rotor helicopters), and Stanley Hiller.
